Year 6 Weekly Post

14.3.25
Good afternoon,
Year 6 did a brilliant job at supporting the Year 1s with a litter pick this week! We walked up to the Muga and the park at the village hall and carried out a litter pick of the surrounding areas. The children helped the Year 1s, and it was lovely to see them all being such fantastic role models.
We have been loving our PE units this half-term. We have been doing badminton and volleyball. The children have already really improved in both sports and have been really resilient. If your child does have a badminton racket at home, and you are happy for them to bring it in, then that would be great, as, although we do have nearly enough for the whole class, we are a couple short. Please don't buy one especially though!
In maths this week we finished our unit on fractions, decimals and percentages. This has been a challenging unit, but the class has made a lot of progress. We have had problems such as 'if 15% of a number is 90, then what is the whole number?'. We used strategies such as working out what 1% would be and then multiplying that by 100 to work out 100%. We will continue to practise questions like this in our morning maths as this was a particular area that was a challenge.
In English, the children have written some amazing narrative recounts linked to 'Wolf Brother'. The class are loving this book, and I have told them that it is part of a series if they would like to read more. We will try and get some more of the books from the series into the library.
We hope you all have a great weekend.
