Yera 6 Weekly Blog

10.1.25

Good afternoon,

Happy New Year to you all. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break. The Year 6 children have settled back in to school life well and have been working hard on our new topics.

In maths, we have been learning about measures involving converting and calculating with measures. In English, we have started some new texts, including 'The Lion and the Unicorn' and 'Letters from the Lighthouse'. We will be continuing with both of these books next week.

In History, we have started our new topic on Ancient Sumer. We were learning this week about some of the inventions that the Ancient Sumerians developed. We will continue to learn about Ancient Sumerian life each week.

In Science today we started a new topic on Evolution and Natural Selection.  In today's lesson, we learnt about the term 'variation' and explored the variation that we have within Year 6.

We wanted to remind you that next week, on Monday and Tuesday, we have 'Bikeability'. If your child has a bike, they will need to bring this with them and leave it in the playground with their helmet. We have said to the children that if they would feel more comfortable in leggings or tracksuit bottoms, then they can wear these, and they will want to make sure they have layers such as gloves, coats etc.

The link below has some information and videos which we have looked at in school today, but is here if the children would like to have a further look:

We hope you all have a good weekend.
