Good afternoon,

This week in maths we have been continuing our topic on multiplication and division. We have moved from multiplying a 4-digit by a 2-digit number to dividing a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number. We have been learning a new method - long division - which is a good method to use when dividing by a large two-digit number. Now that the children know how to do short division and long division, they can choose which method suits them best. 

In English, we have been exploring persuasive writing, and the children have started to write a persuasive letter to the office manager about the black hole in the video that we watched last week. We have been selecting formal language to use in our letters.

In Science today, children were investigating the effect of the distance of a light source on the size of the shadow it creates. They were collecting their data in a table, calculating the average of their repeated results, before analysing it to write a conclusion. 

Next week we have got two trips out - our visit to Highcliffe on Wednesday and our trip to New Park on Thursday for tree planting.
