Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 13.01.25
Dear parents and carers,
This week in science we were learning more about the different planets in our solar system. We predicted the hottest planet and the coldest planet. The answers surprised the children! We also researched the planet Mars and why it is the closest planet to hosting life.
In maths we have been continuing our work on fractions. It was a tough week as the children were comparing and ordering fractions. This often requires them to convert them first. The homework will hopefully help their understanding.
At the beginning of the week in English, the children were learning more about Ernest Shackleton to help develop their 'writer's voice'. Later in the week, we were describing the setting of the Weddell Sea using noun phrases and adverbial phrases.
In guided reading we learnt about another survivor of a mountain climbing accident. The children were practising their select and retrieve skills.
Have a great weekend.
