Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 03.06.24
Dear parents and carers,
We can hardly believe we are in the last half-term of this school year! As usual, it will be jam-packed with lots of learning and fun activities.
This week we have been out collecting litter in Brockenhurst for the whole school litter pick. Year 5 were pleased to notice that in our area, there was hardly any litter to collect!
In D&T we started our new D&T unit, mechanical systems. The children are going to make a cam toy. Please can every child bring in a small cardboard box by the end of the month. The ideal size and type would be a shoebox.
This week in maths we have started our unit on shape. We have been classifying and drawing angles and straight lines.
In reading we have started our new text, This Side of the Mountain. This week we have been looking at how meaning is enhanced though the authors choice of words.
In writing we have started our new text driver, Where Once We Stood. The children are going to be writing a (fictional) formal report of a lunar landing. This week we have been learning all about the Apollo landings which we have all enjoyed. Any extra research about lunar landings the children can do at home will really help with their final writing outcome.
The 2024 KS2 production is The Wizard of Oz. Attached is a copy of the lyrics for the Year 5 song. We will be learning this in class, but it is always helpful to practise a bit at home too!
Have a great weekend.
