Year 5 Blog
Week beginning 11.03.24
Dear parents and carers,
Yesterday we had a fantastic day making bread. It was a huge privilege to have the Head Chef from the Pig Hotel, Chef Alex, to instruct and guide us. The children made the bread from scratch, from weighing the ingredients, proving and then knocking out the dough, to shaping, adding toppings, baking and finally taking them home to taste! Today we evaluated the rolls and we all agreed they were delicious and 'just like bread you buy!'
In writing the children have completed their diary entries based on the book, Henry's Freedom Box. They have used excellent emotive vocabulary and varied sentence structures. We have been very impressed with the standard of writing.
We have started our reading unit on Storm Keeper's Island, looking at how the author has created atmosphere and intrigue in the setting.
In science we have been learning more about friction. Today we planned an investigation looking at how different materials change the effects of friction on a break pad.
Just a reminder that next Friday (22nd) is the KS2 trip to the Mayflower Theatre.
Have a great weekend.
