Year 5 Blog
Dear parents and carers,
Kind request: if your child is unable to take part in PE due to an injury or illness, please can you email the school to let us know. Thank you.
This week we completed the first part of our RE unit, 'What does it mean to be a Muslim today?' We focussed on the key concept of 'Belonging'. The children have evaluated the first two Pillars of Islam - The Shahada and The Salat, and thought about the importance of belonging in their own lives.
In maths we have continued to work on fractions. This week we were converting and comparing fractions with the same and different numerators and denominators. Just a reminder: the homework that is set each week on Maths Shed (accessed through Ed Shed - assignments) is based around the learning that happened in class in the week. It can really help to embed learning for the children.
In reading we started our new unit - Survivors - it is a non-fiction book about courageous survivors who have an incredible ability to draw on all their strength, bravery and self-belief in order to beat the odds, and live to tell their tales.
In writing we have been doing more analysis work around the survival story of Shackleton and looking closely at text structure and language features in preparation for writing our own survival narrative.
On Thursday we had a fantastic trip to watch the Brockenhurst Pantomime, Cinderella...oh no we didn't, oh yes we did... What a brilliant performance and a great laugh was had by all!
Best wishes.
