We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 3

Friday Blog - Friday 31st January

Good afternoon everyone,

We've had another very busy week in Roe Deer class. On Monday we had a very thoughtful discussion in our RE lesson that related to the Holocaust. It just happened that the lesson fell on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. We were able to look at images of King Charles talking to members of the Jewish community and survivors from the camp. I was so impressed by the children's mature attitude during our discussion. They were able to share their knowledge and make thoughtful and empathetic comments about the suffering of the Jewish People during such an upsetting time in history.

On Tuesday we had our third swimming lesson. Again, the instructors were very impressed by the children's behaviour and attitude in the pool. The children still found it exhausting - please make sure they have a snack for our return to school.

We nearly didn't make it to the art gallery on Wednesday - a trespasser on the line meant that no trains were going, just as we needed to leave! Thankfully, within half an hour, the power was back on and we were able to get going. Although a little late, we still had a fantastic time. We had a guided tour of the galery, during which we made sketches from two seascapes. We took these back to the education room, where we turned our sketches into the amazing watercolours that the children brought home. If you want to look at everyone's they are in the Year 3 Gallery on the website.

The children had a great time at the pantomime (Oh no they didn't, oh yes they did!) Many thanks to the PTA for organising. We've had a busy art afternoon today, painting the start of our cityscapes, in the style of Ton Schulten. Hopefully I'll be able to share the finished artwork next week.

Have a lovely weekend,

Clare
