Year 3 Blog - 23.6.23
Wow another hot and sunny week!
Firstly a massive well done to all the children showing great stamina and energy during our whole school walk on Thursday. It was an incredibly hot day, but all the children took everything in their stride and were brilliant. We worked out we walked 5 miles, with lots of drink and shade stops. A massive thank you to our parent helper, we really appreciate your support.
This week's learning, in English we have continued developing our creative poem writing about 'The Night Box', some fabulous ideas. We looked carefully at layout and vocabulary. The children have produced some great work.
In Maths, we have been focusing on subtracting three-digit numbers, with particular attention on partitioning the number (breaking down the number) to make it easier and using an unstructured number line to help. The children have worked really hard to understand this concept, any practise of this at home would really benefit your child.
In Geography this week, Richard Dance from Greener Brockenhurst came to talk to us about 'How we can live more sustainably'. He shared some interesting and informative information about local projects, what we can do to support and then working in small groups we discussed and made an action plan for school.
Homework this week
- Reading your school book (record in reading diary)
- Spelling (Edshed)
- Times Tables – children should have come home with their timetable cards before half term. Please practise these, there are a number of ways you can practise; Hit the button, TTRockstars. The aim is your child can quickly answer times table questions. If they are secure practise the inverse – calculation.
Reminder > Please ensure your child has a named sun hat, water bottle and sun cream in school during the hot weather. So we are able to keep your child safe in the sun.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on: e.townsend@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk and r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk To help us ensure there is consistency please contact both Emma and I.
Have a lovely weekend, Year 3 Team
