Year 3 Blog - 24.3.23
Our final swimming was today, the children have done incredibly well showing great perseverance and resilience. I’d like to personally thank the parents who have volunteered their time to help. We could not have done it without you, we really appreciate your support. Thank you.
In English, we have been using ‘The Promise’ as a stimulus to support our writing about the ocean, we have been looking at different pictures to create our own setting descriptions exploring expanded noun phrases, adjectives and similes. We have also been practising our handwriting in discrete sessions. In Guided Reading, we have been using our reading skills to explore ‘Into the Forest’ Written by Anthony Browne.
In Maths, we continue to practise our timetables (x3, x4, and x8) in a variety of fun ways. Well done to all the children who keep practising these at home, it is so important the children are fluent with these. Attached are some different ways you can practise. We have been using our multiplication and division skills to find fractions of an amount, using a bar model to demonstrate our understanding. We continue to develop our reasoning skills, by explaining how we know. This has been a challenge for the children, therefore we will be setting some homework on Edshed for over Easter to practise this these skills. We hope the issues you have been experiencing have now been resolved.
In PSHE (Jigsaw) we continue to learn how to be safe, talking about when we feel safe, when we do not feel safe and strategies we can use to help ourselves.
IMPORTANT: Next week, we will be making in our DT topic therefore please can we ask that you send your child in with a named Tupperware box on Wednesday so that they can bring their items home.

It is so wonderful to see so many children reading at home, little and often is so important. It is so important to encourage and foster a love of reading so reading a range of books/magazines/comics is really important but for fluency and progression in reading skills children must read their school book. When reading at home, please make a note in their diary so we know they are ready for a new book, thank you.
