Year 3 Blog - 26.01.23
Well another great week in year 3!
Some highlights; ‘Beauty and the Beast’ pantomime on Thursday, viewing the live webcam at Mousehole in Cornwall and making their own Mezuzah’s in R.E.
In Maths, we are revisiting ‘fractions’ this week. We have been recapping on mathematical vocabulary including; numerator, denominator, unit fraction, non-unit fractions, whole, ½ half, ¼ quarter, 1/3 a third, 1/10 tenths. We have also been using number lines and bar models to demonstrate equivalent fractions. A fractions wall is a great support for this; https://www.visnos.com/demos/fraction-wall. We have also been solving problems related to fractions. To the support the children’s understanding please encourage your child to complete their fractions homework on Edshed.
The children have amazed us this week, when completing their timetables checks. Please keep going with these!
In English, we introduced ‘The Mousehole cat’, a folk tale. The children have been really excited to find Mousehole on a map, view the live webcam at the beginning of lesson-noticing changes throughout the day and develop an understanding of the characters and story setting.
In Guided Reading, we have been studying ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl, predicting, practising our inferencing skills and comprehension. For homework, we would like the children to read or listen to chapter 5 in readiness for our learning on Monday. They might like to listen to it on the sora app https://soraapp.com/home using your child’s login or Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJofxwa5bMo. Alternative see if the local library has a copy.
In R.E. we continue to learn about Judaism, the importance of a Shema and Mezuzah in Jewish people lives. In PSHE, we continue to discuss challenges, hopes and dreams for the future. In History, we are learning about the Bronze Age, continuing from our unit of work on the stone age.
Please encourage your child to complete their homework on Edshed
Reminders
*Homework - Edshed- maths, spelling and phonics
* Read or listen to chapter 5 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl
* TTRockstars – by the end of year 3 children need to be confident with 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, 3’s, 4’s and 8’s timetables.
* Read school books
For fluency and progression in reading skills children must read their school book. When reading at home, please make a note in their diary so we can change their book if they have read them. We understand life is busy, but if they have read and you are short of time perhaps write the title and initial.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us on: e.townsend@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk and r.platt@brockenhurst-primary.hants.sch.uk
