We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 3 Blog - 1.12.22

Year 3 continue to work hard and try their best, we are so proud of all of them and all they have achieved this term.

We have continued our English learning journey by reading and gathering our thoughts about ‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpugo. This week we have been thinking of how the author creates atmosphere through the use of exciting vocabulary and illustrations.

In Maths, we have continued our fraction unit, this includes comparing fractions with the same denominator, placing fractions on a number line and working out equivalent fractions. We have also tried solving problems linked to fractions. We continued to secure our understanding of key vocabulary including; whole, part, numerator, denominator, tenths, unit fraction, non-unit fraction and equivalent fractions.

There are helpful guides to understanding how fractions are taught in year 3 (see links above). There are  fraction games and resources attached to this blog to support children’s understanding. Please encourage your child to complete the fraction's homework week this will support them in their learning next week.

This week we started our Design Technology unit of work, Levers and Linkages. We discussed what is meant by these and looked at some. The children explored and designed their own Christmas picture using a ‘spring’ technique. We discussed the importance of solving problems and being resilient learners

We aim to read with each child throughout the week, therefore it is really important children have both their reading book and diary with them daily. It is so important to encourage and foster a love of reading so reading a range of books is really important but for fluency and progression in reading skills children must read their school book.

When reading at home, please make a note in their diary, thank you. J

Reminder-Please if you have not already, ensure payment and permission letters for swimming lessons are returned to school. If you have any questions or concerns regarding swimming, please email us.
