Reading at home

Dear Parents,

One of our top priorities at school is teaching children to become fluent and confident readers. Through our Early Reading curriculum, we do everything we can to support all children to develop the phonic skills they require to become a reader and foster a life-long love of books.

Although your child is taught to read at school, you can have a huge impact on their reading journey by continuing their practice at home.

The children read with an adult in school at least three times a week. Following on from these reading sessions, the phonic reading book is added to your child’s e-book library, via the Collins Hub. You are then able to access this book, and all previous books, for reading practice at home. Remember – your child needs lots of practice to become a fluent and confident reader.

A big thank you and well done to all parents and children who are making the most of this fantastic resource.

However, we are aware that the e-book library resource is underutilised. With current budget constraints, the e-book library provides the most cost-effective way to allow more children access to more books. If you are not using this resource at home, you are doing your child a disservice. A love of reading is the biggest indicator of future academic success. We cannot do this alone and need your support so we can work together for the best possible outcomes for all children.

If you are struggling to access your child’s e-book library, have lost their login details or need any further support, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or me. My email is below:

Many thanks for your continuing support,
