Year 2
Friday 23rd September 2022
I can't believe it's Friday already!
Penguins have been superstars again this week and are continuing to settle into Year 2 fantastically.
This week in English, we have started exploring the book Blue Penguin. The children absolutely love the story and have enjoyed thinking about Blue Penguins thoughts and feelings - their ideas were really kind and thoughtful.
In maths, we have continued to practice our place value skills and have also been comparing numbers. Ask your child to finish the sentence “the crocodile eats the…."!
In PE we have continued our cricket lessons with Chance to Shine and in science we have been drawing all the living things in our local habitat. We have also been exploring how penguins have adapted to the cold in geography and sequencing the story of the Lost Son in RE.
Thank you very much for all your support with your child’s reading and maths fluency cards - it is so nice handing out the books at home time each day and having to ask the children several times to put them in their bags because they want to read them now!
On the subject of home learning, today your child has come home with a login to Ed Shed stuck in their reading records. Starting from next week, on Mondays, I will set a spelling task on Spelling Shed and a maths task on Maths Shed for the children to complete at home. I believe the children are familiar with Spelling Shed from Year 1 and Maths Shed is very similar, however, if you have any questions regarding this or anything else drop me an email or catch me at the end of the day and I will try and help.
To finish I must mention how proud I am of all of Penguin class. They amaze me every day with their enthusiasm to learn, how hard they work all week as well as their resilience when they encounter challenges. Give yourselves a marshmallow clap, round of a claws and a microwave for a brilliant weeks work (ask your child to show you these!) and I hope you have lovely well deserved weekend.
See you on Monday!
Miss Michael :)
