We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 1 - 22.11.24

Good afternoon,

This week, the snow was a definite highlight! The children loved exploring how it felt and even how it tasted. Another exciting moment was our Interfaith morning, where the children participated in creative workshops about Sikhism alongside peers from across the school.

During our Jigsaw circle times, we’ve been discussing similarities, differences, and understanding the concept of bullying. The children explored how to support one another and celebrate what makes everyone special and unique.

In Phonics, we focused on split digraphs (a-e, i-e, o-e, u-e) and tricky words (could, would, should, and our). A helpful rhyme to practice is "Oh you lucky duck." Please encourage your child to identify these when reading. I have set Little Wandle ebooks. Please enjoy reading these with your child.

In Maths, we began our subtraction unit, using practical activities to understand key vocabulary and recording methods. I have set some home learning on Edshed, but this can always be completed practically.

In English, we explored The Three Little Pigs, rehearsing for storytime performance, and writing invitations, which we hope you received!

A big plea please, we have asked the children to ensure toys from home stay at home and reading folders are kept neat and tidy, so this helps us to be efficient when changing books and reading with the children.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday at 2.40pm in the hall for story time.  Please sign in and out at the school hall. We will dismiss the children from the playground door as normal.

Kind regards,
Year 1 Team
