Year 1 - 7.11.24
Welcome Back Year 1!
We hope you all had a wonderful week. Here’s what we’ve been up to in Year 1, along with some exciting news and updates.
English
This week, we dove into the classic story of The Three Little Pigs! The children have been developing their storytelling skills, working on using expressive voices and actions to bring the story to life. We are excited to invite you in for a special story time on Wednesday, 27th November at 2:50 pm. More details will follow soon.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been exploring number bonds to 10 through hands-on activities. The children are learning to work systematically using the part-part-whole model, bar model, and number sentences. We’ve also assigned some homework to reinforce these skills, which can be found on EdShed.
Phonics
Our phonics review has focused on some sounds we learned before the half term: ir (as in bird), ie (as in pie), u (as in unit), and ue (as in blue). We’ll also be introducing new tricky words soon: their, people, oh, and your. In addition, the children’s new Little Wandle books have been set. Please read with your child regularly as this will greatly support their phonics progress. You can access resources on the Little Wandle website.
Please remember to send your child’s reading book to school every day, as this ensures we can read with them as often as possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Warm regards,
The Year 1 Team
