Year 1 -11.10.24
Good Afternoon, Year 1!
We’ve had a fantastic week filled with learning and creativity!
In English, we've begun our new text, “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The children have been bringing the story to life through actions and by creating their own story maps. We’re excited to share our version of the tale with Year 2 at the end of the term!
Don’t forget to check out my Little Wandle blog for some fantastic resources that can support our reading journey!
In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on Place Value. The children have been exploring the differences between a number track and a number line. We discussed how the number line helps us systematically find one more or one less. The children particularly enjoyed the challenge of identifying missing numbers, and some even tackled teen numbers to discover patterns!
Home Learning: Please continue practising the Maths fluency cards at home. It’s important for the children to become speedy and fluent with these skills, so try to mix up the order for added challenge. We assess their progress weekly, depending on our timetable.
I’ve also assigned some home learning for additional practice in maths skills and spelling. You can find it here: Ed Shed Homework.
In our Jigsaw lessons, we’re focusing on friendship and discussing what makes a good friend. In Art, the children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own leaf art, inspired by the wonderful work of Eric Carle.
We’re looking forward to our tree planting activity at New Park next week! Please refer to the letter sent home and ensure your child has the appropriate footwear and clothing.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
