Year 1 - 13.10.23
Good afternoon,
Firstly I'd like to say a huge well done to all my wonderful owls for helping me with worship this week. This half term we have been discussing our school learning value 'Ambition'. Owls had some thoughtful ideas then presented to the whole school.
Owls did so well, speaking loudly, clearly and confidently. A huge well done.
In English, we have continued to learn about 'Oliver Vegetables', composing sentences, particularly working on sentence structure, and beginning to use 'and' to make our sentences more interesting.
In Maths, we have been learning to add two groups together using the part, part, whole model to support. The vocabulary we have been using is; add, adding, more, altogether, together, the number gets bigger. Our homework this week is to practise the skill of adding practically, then recording with numbers to 10.
In jigsaw this week, we have been discussing how our choices have consequences and how to make good independent choices.
It is wonderful to see so many children enthusiastic when reading at home, as from next week reading certificates will ONLY be awarded if children have read both the relevant Little Wandle e-book (this is uploaded on a Thursday and shows the date issued). Your child should also know which book they need to read as we have read it three times that week. This will enable the children to practise the skills they have learnt that week and the relevant phonics to help them progress.
They should also read their school reading book.
Looking forward to catching up with you at parents evening next week,
Year 1 Team
