Year 1
Friday 23rd June 2023
We have had a lovely week in Year 1.
On Monday, we were very lucky to have Winchester Science Centre come in to do a very exciting workshop with us. We took part in an experiment to test the best insulator. We had to cover ice in materials and then use a hair dryer to melt the ice and see which material was best at protecting it. We had to use lots of different skills during this experiment including writing, measuring and counting in 5s!
In maths, we have been using related number facts to help us solve real life problems.
In English, we have started a new writing unit using a text about the Great Fire of London. Next week, we will be using our skills of poem writing to create a poem about the Great Fire of London.
Yesterday was our whole school walk and we all had a great time. The weather got rather warm, especially on the way back to school. Despite this, the children were so resilient and really enjoyed it. Safe to say, we were exhausted when we got back to school and I had never seen them so quiet!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
