Year 1
Friday 19th May 2023
We have had a really lovely week in Year 1.
In English, we have started to plan our story. We have been reading ‘The Storm Whale’ and next week we will be writing our own ending to the story.
In maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties. The children have been great at learning all of the key vocabulary and making links to every day objects. We have also been focusing on position and direction. We went on to the playground and practised quarter, half and full turns and we now know our lefts and rights!
In science, we have been doing some planting. We grew lettuce seeds and broad beans to answer the question ‘does a bigger seed grow a bigger plant?’ We will continue to observe the plants and we are excited to see if our predictions were correct!
Today in PE, we were very lucky to have some Brockenhurst college students in to teach us. Year 1 were so well behaved and they really enjoyed the session.
We had a lovely afternoon today painting outdoors. We painted on big rolls of paper and created a seaside scene. The children had to work together and the final products are looking fantastic! I am hoping to put them up in the classroom for us to admire throughout the summer term.
Important notices:
- A reminder to sign your child’s reading diary every time you read with them at home. Reading is a vital skill and support at home is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your ongoing support.
- Please can children not bring toys into school. It is upsetting when they get lost/damaged and they can often cause disagreements. Thank you.
Lepe beach on Monday:
- We are very excited about our trip to the beach! It is meant to be lovely weather, so we will need sun cream on, hats and plenty of water!
Have a restful weekend and hopefully we can enjoy some sunshine!
