Year 1
Friday 13th January 2023
We have had a lovely week in Year 1.
On Monday, we were lucky enough to have a wonderful assembly on coding. It was a very exciting experience which all of the children enjoyed. We even saw a robot!
In English this week, we have been continuing to read Croc and Bird. Next week, we will begin to write our non-chronological report on a chosen animal. On Monday we will be researching animals and I have said to the children they are welcome to bring in any non-fiction books about animals!
In maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We have been using part whole models and bar models to represent number facts and moving on to reasoning and problem solving questions.
We have welcomed a student teacher from the University of Winchester into Koala Class this week. Her name is Miss Woodford and she will be with us until Easter. The children have made her feel very welcome and we are glad she is part of the Year 1 team!
I haven’t set a Little Wandle reading book on Collins Ebooks this week. A short week last week meant we needed to spend more time on the same book.
I have sent a letter home with the children today about a trip to Marwell Zoo in March. Please could this be returned as soon as possible, thank you. I would like to echo what I have put on the letter and say a huge thanks to the PTA who have kindly funded a large proportion of the trip which has reduced the costs significantly. I have also put on the letter about parent helpers. We need 5 so if you are able to help, it would be hugely appreciated!
Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Monday.
Miss Prichard, Mrs Kitcher and Miss Woodford.
