Year 1
Friday 18th November
Good afternoon everyone,
We have had a great week in Koala class.
We have finished our Three Little Pigs writing unit which the children have enjoyed. I have been very impressed with their determination to become more independent. The children are all very good at independently using sound mats and word mats to help them and using these to successfully spell words that may be tricky. Next week, we will be moving on to writing about our favourite toys so a big thank you to everyone who sent those pictures over to me!
In maths this week, we have been looking at properties of 2D shapes, halving shapes and we are now moving on to halving a number. We have learnt new vocabulary such as sides, vertices, half and equal.
In PE this half term, we are focusing on gymnastics. We have enjoyed watching clips of the GB gymnastics and noticing how they are balancing and walking gracefully. We have practised balancing on one leg, jumping to balance on one leg and balancing with a partner. We have practised these in a sequence as we noticed that gymnasts have to remember lots of things in a sequence! We are now moving on to balancing and travelling across balance beams and landing in different ways.
In art, we are focusing on Brian Wildsmith’s angels. We have used watercolours this week to make lighter and darker shades of colours and then incorporating this into a Brian Wildsmith inspired painting of an angel.
A reminder that books are changed on a Monday and Thursday when it is signed in the diary that children have read at home.
Thank you for your continued support.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Prichard and Mrs Kitcher.
