Year 1
14/5/21
Hello everyone,
We have had a great week in Year 1. We started the week of great with our Skateboard session. The children all loved joining in and having a go at riding the skateboards. I was so impressed with how quickly they all picked it up.
In English this week we have finished our topic based around Seaside Poems. The children have all created their own seaside senses poem. It has been great to see the children's ideas, from smelling fish and chips at the beach to tasting crunchy sand sandwiches. We have now moved onto our new learning journey, 'The Storm Whale' by Benji Davies. In Maths this week we have been working hard at finding one more and one less than a number. We have now moved onto addition and subtraction. It has been great to see the children showing their workings out in a variety of ways using bar models and whole part models.
Today was our Geography today where we have started our new topic looking at the Seaside and why people enjoy it. We started by comparing different pictures of the seaside, countryside and towns and noting the differences. We then looked specifically at Wembury in Dorset. We found out all the things you can do there. The children then designed and wrote their own postcards as if they had been on a day trip.
To help with getting dressed for PE, I know a few of the children have lace up trainers. It would be really beneficial if all the children could spend some time at home practising tying them up.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Miss McKay
