Year 1 Blog
This week we have been looking at fractions in maths. We know that to find half of a number, we share between 2 people and to find a quarter we share between 4. To help you child at home, find halves and quarters of numbers, objects and shapes. Talk about which fraction is bigger (half or quarter) and whether they are equal or not.
In English this week we have been focussing on spelling the common exception words. These are the words that the children need to be able to read and spell by the end of Year 1. I will send a copy home in everyone's book bags tonight. It would really help if you could go through these as much as possible with your child/ren and help them to remember how to spell them.
We have also started looking at reading comprehensions. Although our reading is getting so much better, we found our first attempt at doing one of these quite challenging. We will be going through lots more next term. To help your child, please read as much as possible and get them to talk about what they have read. As always; question, question question.
We hope you have a fabulous Easter and look forward to seeing you all back after the holidays.
