We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year R

Friday Blog - Friday 20th January

Good evening everyone,

We have been enjoying the cold and frost this week, exploring ice and even snow. Although the actual weather let us down with no real snow falling from the sky, Mrs Morris worked her magic and snow appeared in the classroom. We also had some frozen igloos to play with too. The children were surprised by how long they took to melt. We found lots of ice in the playground too. On our snow day we also looked at a melting snowman too and then made melting snowmen biscuits - the children all told me how delicious they were.

The children go from strength to strength in phonics. We have learnt more digraphs and trigraphs this week:  ur - curl the fur; ow - wow owl; oi - boing, boing; ear - get near to hear. The children are using their sounding out and blending skills in both reading and writing. Please try and get into a routine of reading with your child at home as often as possible. We change their books twice a week, which they read in school before bringing home. I set their new phonic reading book on their e-library on Friday after they have read it in school 3 times. We also add new tricky words to their pots once a week, once they have been covered in our teaching. Please make sure reading wallets and tricky word pots come to school every day. Also, if any parents have a spare bit of time each week and would like to come and hear readers or practise tricky words, please let me know.

Have a lovely weekend,
