Attendance
At Brockenhurst CE Primary & Pre-School we believe that every child deserves the best education. If they are at school, they are learning. Every day counts.
Excellent and regular attendance is essential for a child’s education to be successful. It is a parent’s legal responsibility to ensure that their child attends school. We thank those parents that ensure that attendance is above 95%. Other than for illness, absence should only occur in exceptional circumstances and holidays taken in term time will not be authorised.
Absence notification: Parents/carers should contact the school before 9.30am, EVERY DAY that their child is absent. There is an answerphone function available so that you can leave a message at anytime; this is monitored by office staff.
Medical appointments: we ask that medical and dental appointments are made outside of the school day wherever possible please.
Please take time to read the guide to attendance expectations below.
You are required under the Education Act (1996) to ensure your child attends school regularly. Amendments to the 2006 Regulations in Education (Pupil Registration) came into force in September 2013. The amendments make it clear that Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Where a pupil has 10 or more unauthorised absences (5 days) due either to a holiday that has been taken without permission, or the refusal of a parent/carer’s request for leave of absence (unauthorised absence is for 10 or more sessions i.e. 5 days) a penalty notice for non-attendance may be issued. Updated National framework issued in August 2024 has set out that where two Penalty Notices have been issued within a 3-year period, a third period of absence will result in a referral to the Legal Intervention Team.
